Dive into the maintenance and repair of parking facilities, exploring protection strategies, relevant codes and guidelines, and the consequences of deferred maintenance. Learn about the latest systems, including the advantages of membrane vs. asphalt topping on traffic decks.

Scott Laing, BSc, P.Eng., LEED® AP, Parksmart Advisor | Associate

A skilled leader and communicator, Scott provides mentoring and support to a number of the junior engineers in his group. Colleagues and clients consider Scott to be approachable, responsive and a pleasure to work with. He consistently demonstrates a high degree of competency in project management and relationship building and has proven himself to be focused, driven, and ready to go the extra mile to meet the needs of the project and his clients.

Scott is involved in the evaluation, restoration and renovations of existing structures. He has also been involved with a number of demolition projects, as well as unique non-traditional projects such as his work on the ‘Suicide Prevention Barriers’ for Oxford Properties. His work on the ‘Suicide Prevention Barriers’ won accolades including BOMA’s Pinnacle Award for Innovation.

Scott graduated from the University of Alberta. He successfully completed his Principles of Construction Documentation course through the Construction Specification Canada. Scott is a LEED Accredited Professional and a Parksmart Advisor, both designations that recognize his commitment and understanding of how to bring sustainable design solutions to his projects.

James Wells, BEng, P.Eng | Associate

James has a firm understanding of the principles behind structural restoration and how to implement long-term repairs practically. James' friendly and conscientious manner is key to building strong relationships resulting in successful projects. He takes the time to listen and understand the needs of his clients and their business to develop repair strategies addressing short-term issues and measures to protect the asset over the life cycle of the building.

James focuses on evaluating and restoring existing pre-cast, post-tensioned, and normally reinforced concrete structures (parking garages, plaza decks, and pools). In particular, he has focused on plaza deck redevelopment projects for condominium and commercial properties, working with and leading multi-disciplinary teams of sub-consultants. His work includes acting as Prime Consultant with a team of sub-consultants on the redevelopment of the ATB Place plaza deck incorporating approximately 79,000 sq. ft.

James received his Bachelor's degree from the University of McMaster in Hamilton, Ontario. He completed his Principles of Construction Documentation course through Construction Specification Canada.
