Paquette will outline his “Money Plan” — a bold framework to prevent drastic tax hikes or service cuts by:

• Leveraging Edmonton’s EdTel endowment as a municipal sustainability fund
• Using strategic land sales, leases, and equity stakes in development to generate recurring revenue
• Realigning growth strategies across greenfield, downtown, and industrial zones to broaden the tax base and reduce pressure on residential taxpayers
• Pursuing efficiencies and innovation within city operations so Edmontonians don’t bear the burden through increased taxes

At a time when Edmonton faces multi-million-dollar deficits, potential double-digit tax increases, and shrinking non-residential development, this discussion will explore how the city can strengthen its financial foundation and avoid going broke. It’s the right kind of conversation to have as we welcome a new council and move into fall budget deliberations.
