Temperature Control Mechanic / HVAC

Your Opportunity:

This Temperature Control Mechanic/HVAC position reports to the Manager of Engineering Services, Facilities Maintenance and Engineering at the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) site. The incumbent will assist in maintaining 8 facilities, totaling more than 650,000 m2 of clinical and mechanical space: Acute Care, Laboratory, Research, Commercial, Institutional, and Industrial equipment. The incumbent will monitor, maintain, test, repair, commission, and document in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Electrical Safety Program, Department Policy, Life Safety, CSA standards, and Building Code regulations. While working with a multidisciplinary team of Tradespeople, Maintenance Workers and collaborating with Clinical staff, Contractors, the incumbent's scope of work will include, but is not limited to, analyzing performance of air handling systems, operating room, isolation room, laboratory, and secondary fan systems, BMS controls, pneumatic controls, VAV boxes, Phoenix valves, AccuValves, control valves, air filtration, humidification, and hydronic systems, analyzing load comparison, impact of system on the building, and airflow monitoring devices. Recommend design, replacement, modification, and major repair of HVAC systems. Implement preventive maintenance schedules, document materials used; prepare feasibility, cost estimates, reports, and ordering supplies. This position is intrinsic with assisting, but is not limited to, all process involving Major & Minor Capital Projects at the UAH site, initial start-up meetings, review specifications & drawings with Consultants, Engineers, Project Managers, Coordinators, Clinical Liaison. The Temperature Control Mechanic/HVAC's responsibilities are to uphold the integrity of indoor air quality to assure the hospital occupants are in a comfortable and safe environment as per FME requirements.

Required Qualifications:Completion of a post-secondary education in a related trade or technology program.

Additional Required Qualifications:Required experience in analyzing performance of air handling systems, analyzing load comparison, impact of system on the building, airflow monitoring devices and air balancing. Intrinsic knowledge of troubleshooting BMS controls, pneumatic controls, VAV boxes, Phoenix valves, AccuValves, control valves, air filtration, humidification, and hydronic systems, implementing preventive maintenance schedules, documentation, prepare feasibility, cost estimates, reports, and ordering supplies. Experience with recommending design, replacement, modification of HVAC systems on new projects. Must be thoroughly familiar with tools and equipment used in the trade. Required understanding of Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Requires the ability to work independently and effectively in an interdisciplinary setting and maintain high confidentiality, detail-oriented, establish priorities, respond to requests promptly and meet deadlines. Proven reliability and dependability with no physical limitations concerning sitting, kneeling, crawling, squatting, standing, walking, and working at heights. Demonstrated self-direction, adaptability, and flexibility are required while working in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment, responding to changing demands and ability to organize and prioritize workload. Requires a HVACR Technician Certificate, Building Environmental Systems Technology Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 5 years of technician experience as a ticketed HVAC technician with HVACR Technician Certificate or Building Environmental Systems Technology Diploma. Minimum 2 years’ experience in an active hospital maintenance program. Knowledgeable of CSA Z317.2, ASHRAE 170, Health Care facility Infection Prevention Control, and work safety regulations. Knowledge of Microsoft Visio is an asset. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
