We are currently recruiting a full-time, permanent Power Engineer, Building Systems and Automation for our Facility Services department.  

 

What is the Opportunity? 

Reporting to the Manager, Facility Services, the Power Engineer, Building Systems and Automation is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of all building systems, plant equipment, and sustainability initiatives. This role focuses on optimizing building management systems, maintaining compliance with ABSA standards for boilers and pressure vessels, and supporting energy-saving projects in collaboration with the Energy Manager.  

By leveraging technical expertise, the position ensures occupant comfort, system reliability, and operational efficiency while driving sustainability and conservation efforts. This position also involves maintaining records and data entry related to facility maintenance, coordinating contracted services, sourcing suppliers and ordering parts and equipment. This position provides exceptional customer service and represents the department with a high degree of service excellence. 

What will you do? 

  • Maintain and troubleshoot building automation systems (BAS) to ensure efficient operation and reliability, ensuring occupant comfort 

  • Ensure compliance with building codes and regulations related to system operations 

  • Operate, monitor and maintain boiler systems in compliance with ABSA standards and regulations 

  • Conduct routine inspections and testing of pressure vessels and related equipment 

  • Coordinate with ABSA for inspections, certifications and regulatory compliance 

  • Develop and oversee water treatment programs to enhance system efficiency and compliance 

  • Sourcing and overseeing contractors for various jobs, including comparing quotations to ensure services are fairly priced in the market 

  • Support sustainability initiatives by analyzing building systems and energy consumption data 

What do you need to succeed? 

You are an ideal candidate if you have the following: 

  • High School Diploma 

  • Minimum 3rd Class Power Engineering License registered in good standing with ABSA (comparable experience considered)

  • Aerial Work Platform Operator certification 

  • Fall Arrest & Restraint certification 

  • Standard First Aid, WHMIS, OH&S training courses 

  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in Building Operations or Power Engineering 

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills 

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload efficiently 

  • Class 5 Driver’s License 

Preferred: 

  • Facility management (BOMI/IFMA) certification or working towards 

  • Journeyperson Certificate, or comparable license 

  • Advanced training on BMS systems, programing and operations  

  • Advanced training on sustainable energy efficiency techniques  

  • Experience with municipal facilities and operations
