Maintenance Worker III

Your Opportunity:

The Facility Maintenance & Engineering department is seeking a Maintenance Worker III for the Gene Zwozdesky Centre. The individual would report to the Gene Zwozdesky FM&E Manager and you may be asked to work days or evenings and also possible on-call. As a Maintenance Worker III, you may perform a variety of skilled maintenance and repair work on patient and hospital equipment and complex mechanical systems to ensure safety and efficient operation of the building systems and equipment. You may utilize your maintenance skills and experience in the performance of preventative and demand maintenance within the exterior and interior of the building. Your duties may include troubleshooting and repairing electronic components on patient and hospital equipment; monitoring, troubleshooting and performing repairs on HVAC, medical air and vacuum systems and water systems. In addition, you may be required to coordinate and assign work to other Maintenance Worker staff in order to meet operational requirements. The primary location will be the Gene Zwozdesky Centre, but if an event unfolds, this person may be asked to work at other sites within the zone. Potential multi-site duties as directed by the FM&E Director or Manager.

Required Qualifications:Completion of post-secondary education in a related field and/or 1 year specialized/technical training in a related field OR 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate as per ABSA kW rating guidelines or AHS standards where boiler support is necessary. Possession of a valid driver's licence.

Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of 1 – 2 years' experience in building operations and maintenance in a hospital setting. Basic understanding and use of computer programs such as Word, Excel and Access. Must be familiar with snow removal and lawn maintenance equipment. Must have good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Ability to work independently and work well in a team setting. Must be able to multi-task and have good analytical, organizational and troubleshooting skills. Must be in good physical condition with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Must have ability to work on a ladder with arms above shoulder height for long periods of time when required. No physical limitation with regards to sitting, bending, kneeling, crouching, etc. Must be able to complete repairs and installations with due consideration to patients, staff, and visitors.

Preferred Qualifications:HVAC specific training and/or experience with ability to operate and troubleshoot systems (ventilation, hydronics, boilers, refrigeration, etc.). Experience with computerized building control systems. Ability to read and interpret building drawings and schematics (e.g. architectural, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, civil, etc.). Experience in operations and maintenance in a health care related facility is desired.
