We are seeking a Controller to support our financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls and process improvements while supporting senior management on financial strategy and decision-making. This role will report directly to the VP, Finance.

Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting:

• Oversee and coordinate all routine accounting functions.
• Ensure accurate financial documentation, reconciliations and variance analysis is performed to support financial statements each month.
• Manage the financial statement close process to ensure completion within set timelines. Assist the VP, Finance in conducting financial analyses, identifying trends and providing strategic recommendations to support decision making.

Budget & Forecasting:

• Collaborate with VP, Finance to prepare annual budget.
• Monitor budget-to-actual results and provide insights/areas of improvement.
• Manage overhead costs and job cost allocations.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement:

• Manage annual insurance renewal and project specific insurance requirements.
• Assist in year-end review engagement preparation.
• Assess, document and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with company policies. Make recommendations for improvement and incorporate an internal audit process.

Accounts Payable Support:

• Review and approval of accounts payable transactions.
• Train and mentor accounting and administrative staff.
• Maintain fixed asset records including depreciation and long-term debt schedules.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• A Canadian CPA designation.
• 2-5 years of experience in a construction setting.
• A problem-solving mindset and initiative to make process improvements.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, internal controls and accounting best practices.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proven experience leading and mentoring accounting teams.
• Excellent technical acumen with proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Team player with a willingness to learn and adapt.
