June 25, 2026 (3:00 PM - 5:00 PM) (MDT)

Description

BOMA Connects: District Energy Series - Session 2 (Technical & Systems)

Join us for the second session in the BOMA Connects: District Energy Series, hosted at The Switch. We will move from strategy into real-world application. This technical building tour will provide attendees with a firsthand look at how Qualico has prepared the Switch for future connection to the downtown district energy utility. Learn from industry experts on how the Downtown District Energy Initiative can fit into your long term planning and the steps to connect.

This session is for building owners, building operations, building managers, engineers and technical teams who want to better understand what it actually takes at the building level to enable district energy integration, including capital planning, system modifications; and operational readiness required.

What You’ll Experience:

Attendees will tour The Switch, and part of Qualico's Station Lands development, and learn from technical experts about the steps required to prepare for district energy connection. This is a live and evolving process, offering a rare opportunity to view implementation in real time rather than theory.

You will also hear directly from:

  • Ulf-Hilmar Hahn, VP Development, Northern Alberta & B.C., Qualico Properties
  • Engineering and technical experts such as FVB Energy

The tour and presentation will give you practical insight into the technical requirements, a realistic account of implementation and long-term planning needed to get your buildings district energy ready.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How buildings are modified and prepared for district energy connection
  • The capital planning decisions required
  • How infrastructure upgrades are phased and coordinated over time
  • The challenges and opportunities during implementation
  • How real buildings are actively navigating the transition process

Who Should Attend:

  • Building owners and developers
  • Building operation managers and engineers
  • Asset managers and portfolio managers
  • Capital planning and facilities teams
  • Property managers and building operators
  • Sustainability and energy managers
  • Engineering, operations, and technical staff involved in building systems or retrofits

Important Notes:
Following registration, attendees will receive a sign-up form to select their preferred tour time slot, as group sizes will be limited to ensure a high-quality, hands-on experience.

Networking Opportunity:
The session will conclude with a networking opportunity, allowing attendees to connect with peers, presenters, and industry experts in an informal setting.

This is a unique opportunity to see district energy implementation in action and understand what it truly takes to move from planning to execution within an active building environment.
