Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a Supervisor, Security Services, for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Security department. Reporting to the Director of Security and Dispatch Services, this uniformed operational position demands a high level of professionalism, as you’ll be providing essential leadership, coaching, and guidance for security and dispatch operations, and overseeing all aspects of routine and emergency security responses, including reporting, investigations, and managing internal and external relationships.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing direct supervision to Peace Officers, Security Agents, Dispatchers, and Security Guards, ensuring operations comply with legislation and policy;
  • Participating in recruitment, granting limited overtime and adding contract security during emergencies;
  • Coordinating leave requests and shifts, approving time, promoting teamwork, overseeing performance standards, supporting training development and writing work instructions;
  • Documenting and advancing service complaints, and obtaining detailed statements;
  • Managing the Security Services Incident Management Software;
  • Overseeing daily responses to building alarms and safety drills at the University; and
  • Acting as Incident Commander to liaise with fire personnel, participating in emergency planning simulations and training, and reporting any anomalies in emergency plan execution to the Director of Security and Dispatch Services.

SKILLS

You will have:

  • Management and leadership skills;
  • A high level of integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive investigations;
  • The ability to develop and manage effective shift schedules;
  • Knowledge of post-secondary environments;
  • Knowledge of current investigative processes, record management and information security.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and municipal legislation;
  • Knowledge of preventative techniques in dealing with human behavior within a community setting;
  • A comprehensive understanding of social issues and human behavior; and
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and foster constructive relationships across the University and with partner agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A post-secondary Diploma in law enforcement, security, law or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience within a recognized enforcement agency in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience providing testimony in court.
  • Experience delivering security services at major events and during emergencies.
  • Experience in training and facilitating workshops for staff and the public;
  • Experience in the judicial system, with start-to-end investigations and prosecutions.
  • Graduation from a major police service academy or the Provincial Training Academy is considered an asset.
  • A minimum of ICS 100 is considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
