Location - Work primarily takes place at Augustana Campus, Camrose, Alberta. This role is in-person.

Position


The Maintenance Worker I - Grounds Technician is responsible for providing a safe, aesthetically pleasing landscaped campus environment for the university community within the framework of University policies and procedures.


Duties

  • Perform and monitor all snow and ice removal/management efforts on campus
  • Perform typical landscaping duties all over campus. This includes but is not limited to: mowing, trimming, raking, edging, sod and fertilizer application, performing/coordinating repair efforts to hard and soft landscaped areas, shrub bed maintenance
  • Coordinate the department and campus fleet vehicle and equipment maintenance plus inspection schedules. This includes routine maintenance, tire changes, etc
  • Supervise a crew of summer students (3 - 6) from May till August as they assist with landscaping duties
  • There will also be occasional opportunities to assist the Building Maintenance personnel with moving large/heavy/awkward items, hauling away garbage and recycling
  • Water feature startup/shutdown plus its water quality upkeep from Spring to Fall
  • Operation of the following equipment: Toolcat, tractor, Case skid steer, mowers, turf sweeper/baler, utility vehicles, water trailer, dump trailer
  • Operation of various hand and power tools
  • Other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Grade 12
  • Horticulture Diploma or Journeyman Landscape Gardener License
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License, non-GDL
  • Two (2) years of experience necessary to acquire the necessary skills and expertise
  • Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P) knowledge
  • Management Plan for Ice and Snow Control Knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

  • OHS Supervisor's course, skid steer, standard first aid, fall arrest, aerial work platform, ladder safety
