ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Chris Morris was named President and CEO of the Edmonton Elks in 2024. A long-time offensive lineman with the club, Morris played 14 seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos from 1992 to 2005, earning three Grey Cup championships (1993, 2003, 2005) and induction onto the EE Wall of Honour in 2008.
Before returning to the Elks, Morris spent 12 years as head coach of the University of Alberta Golden Bears football team. Under his leadership, the program achieved significant success, including four Canada West playoff appearances and a berth in the 2023 Hardy Cup. His work during the 2023 season saw Morris become just the third University of Alberta coach to win the Frank Tindall Trophy for U Sports Football Coach of the Year.
Morris was also responsible for revitalizing the Golden Bears alumni and donor relations, while coaching 19 players who were later drafted into the CFL – including current Elks Mark Korte, David Beard, and Carter O’Donnell.
In addition to his football career, Morris has a deep background in education. While playing for the Eskimos, he became a full-time teacher with Edmonton Public Schools in 1997 and later served as principal at Spruce Avenue Junior High starting in 2009.
As President and CEO of the Elks, Morris has stated his commitment to restoring the team’s championship culture and organizational stability. He has emphasized the importance of continuity in the roster and staff and has worked tirelessly to rebuild the franchise’s connection with the community.
Morris’s appointment marked a return to leadership deeply rooted in the team’s history and community, bringing a wealth of experience from the playing field and educational leadership.
